Adventures For Solo Travelers offers a variety of trips. Some trips are designed for those seeking a more relaxed and comfortable experience, while others offer more adventurous and exotic locales. Choosing the trip that best suits your travel needs and preferences is important. Either way, both options are great for experiencing new things.

Tourist vs Travel

In today’s world, it’s hard to separate fact from fiction, especially when it comes to travel experiences. The only way to know for sure is by taking a metaphorical plunge. Here at AFS, we personally ensure that our carefully picked destinations not only leave our travelers in awe but also provide excellent value for money.

Rajasthan is a treasure trove of magnificent palaces, temples, forts, and gardens that truly capture its regal history. The hotels here are nothing short of spectacular. One such example is the enchanting Oberoi – a luxurious 5-star resort nestled along the shores of Lake Pichola amidst sprawling gardens. Recognized as India’s top resort by Travel & Leisure, it’s impossible not to fall head over heels for this place.

As soon as you step through the gates, you’ll be greeted by a shower of rose petals (keep an eye on that basket-wielding gentleman on the roof). Accommodations range from cozy tents to opulent presidential suites, with mid-range options being just as stunning. Rest assured, AFS travelers will be treated exceptionally well – plenty of twin-bedded rooms with clawfoot tubs cater perfectly to leisure groups, especially those from America.

With limited time in this paradise, make the most of your stay by taking a dip in the pool, freshening up your wardrobe, or simply soaking in the tranquillity. Trust us; you’ll absolutely adore this mesmerizing haven!

It’s a curious thing, journeying solo into the unknown, seeking adventures and finding treasure troves amidst the bustling markets of exotic lands. I set off on my little escapade with a humble travel bag weighing no more than 15 KGs, never imagining that I’d lug back 25 KGs of memories and wonders! Oh, what an amusing predicament I found myself in!

In my quest for minimalism, I vowed to purchase naught but trinkets for beloved friends. Yet, the tantalizing allure of India’s absurdly low prices was nigh impossible to resist. As if ensnared by some mystical force, my hands eagerly reached for vibrant fabrics and intricate decor – ah, sweet surrender to the irresistible charm of Indian bazaars!

Traveling solo can be an incredibly rewarding and empowering experience. As a solo traveler, you have the freedom to set your own pace, explore your interests, and meet like-minded individuals along the way. One of the best ways to make the most of your solo journey is by joining group tours specifically designed for single travelers. These trips offer an opportunity to connect with other adventure-seekers while discovering unforgettable destinations like the enchanting city of Udaipur in India. In this post, we’ll explore some fantastic options for solo traveler trips and group tours that cater to singles.

Solo travel provides an unparalleled sense of freedom and adventure. When you embark on your journey alone, you can tailor your experiences to your interests and desires, without needing to compromise for anyone else’s preferences. Rajasthan is brimming with hidden gems waiting to be explored by curious travelers. As an adventure-seeking vacationer, I thrive on veering off the trodden path and immersing myself in challenging and revitalizing experiences. My recent escapade through India has left a myriad of incredible memories jostling for my attention. Journeying from opulent cities and palaces to the humblest of remote villages—Ranapur, Pinwara, Ghothal, Bera, Jawai and some unnamed—has been eye-opening.

For this solo traveler far from modern conveniences such as plumbing, electricity, water taps, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, infrastructure, or English speakers, I find true bliss! With the help of my guide Kishir, who is fluent in all Hindi dialects, I interacted with various tribes who had never encountered a foreigner before. In order to build trust upon arrival, I would bring small gifts and blow bubbles (which initially scared them until children came out to pop them and everyone joined the fun). Occasionally, I would donate rupees to an elder—always greeted with smiles.

The Bhil people, living in mud huts even today, were the poorest among those I met. A woman offered me a grubby cup of tea which I drank nervously, hoping not to suffer from “Delhi Belly” later that night. Fortunately, I didn’t; instead my heart swelled with appreciation. Thinking of our fellow solo traveler Rachel in Kolkata who experiences this daily gratitude fills me with envy.

Thank you, India—my cherished land—for deepening my connections and reminding me to be ever mindful of my abundant blessings on this incredible solo journey!

This very poor family stopped our car on the road to ask if they could give me a puppet show for 200 rupees ($2). Then, in a village with no name, I blew bubbles. Initially, they were terrified, and then took delight in popping them ! My escort said I am the first American to this region around Bera. Many villages have never seen a foreigner before! I am loving it, in my element.

Continuing my Adventures For Solo Travelers Sight Inspection
The “Bera Bond” is a startling discovery of a little known leopard colony in the remote forests of Rajasthan. It’s a village where people and leopards have peacefully coexisted for over a century. Had it not been for leopards, the place would have been hidden from human eyes. Wildlife photographers and nature researchers have come from around the world here and I am thrilled to arrive to see if there’s truth behind the story. It’s the most remote place I’ve been in all my travels and was told I am the first American. I sense that this hidden gem will soon be trending on travelers’ bucket list. Many of our AFS exotic travelers would love this place and if worthy, I’ll arrange a group tour to beat the masses of thrill seekers to come.
The leopard population is thriving and expected to grow. The cats coexist here with the primitive Rabari tribe. Mustached tribesmen in turbans rear camels, sheep and goats. But it’s a matriarchal society where women manage all affairs. There are around 11,000 Rabaris in 10 villages and a close-knit community. The remarkable coexistence with leopards stems from a deep spiritual connection forged over 200 years. Rabari’s revere leopards as angels and worship them. These leopards live in rock caves and sometimes prowl in temples. Tourists may be shocked to see a leopard moving freely around a temple, even as priests do their daily rituals unfazed.
My colleague Smita and I are hosted with a stay at the beautiful Cheetagarh Resort near Jawai town. At 4 PM, we meet our expert naturalist guides for a drive in search of sloth bears, hyena, crocs, over 2000 species of birds here and leopards. As our jeep climbs straight up and over sheer rock out crops and cliffs, we were terrified. This made Dune bashing in Dubai seem like kids play. The driver kept insisting it would be safe so we just held tight to the hand bar. We spotted nothing until 7 PM when 2 trackers on scooters with their dogs lead us to caves in the east. It was a glorious site at sunset in these mountains to spot several leopards and their cubs! India has around 14,000 leopards and countless tigers. But here is the world’s highest concentration of leopards in just 72 sq miles. I ask our guide Jain WHY? He says “Here leopards have shelter in caves, food, water, no predators and can live in harmony with the locals. There have been no attacks on humans. There is a unique man-animal dynamic as these leopards adapted to the presence of humans. Rabari’s now welcome visitors which brings them income as trackers. I wonder what the future will bring to the culture of this remote tribe. Bera’s story, still unfolding, sends us a powerful message about respect and tolerance between all living beings .”

Cheetagarh Resort near Jawai town, Rajasthan.

Whether you’re interested in exploring the local landscape on foot or by jeep, or simply relaxing by the resort’s pool or in the spa, there’s something for everyone here. Come discover your wild side, and experience the magic of Cheetagarh for yourself!

There’s a lot of false hype out there now. You don’t know the temperature until you dip a finger in the pool. With Adventures For Solo Travelers aka AFS, I like to vet properties we know our groups will love before we send them there. We look for the highest Wow factor and negotiate the best price.
Rajasthan is resplendent with opulent palaces, temples, forts and gardens that reflect its majestic history. Hotels are extraordinary. I fell in love with this Oberoi, a stunning 5-star resort set on Lake Pichola spread over miles of gardens. Travel & Leisure ranks this is India’s number-one resort!
As I enter the gates, I’m showered with 🌹 rose petals from the sky ( look closely at the man with a basket on the roof).
I check into a mid-range room of 6 different categories from luxurious tents to presidential suites. Later, the gracious management team provides a tour of every part of this magnificent property. My first question is always- how many twin bedded rooms for AFS? They have plenty, each with a footed tub and they love leisure groups, especially from America. Then it’s free time and with only one night in this paradise, I use it well to swim, iron my clothes and rest. You will love this place!

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is continuing its crackdown on misbehaving passengers.

by Daniel McCarthy /

(Fortunately, Adventures For Solo Travelers are comprised of good travelers and this has never been a problem in our 30+ years).

After instituting a zero-tolerance policy toward unruly passengers last summer, a policy that resulted in over $1 million in fines across almost 4,000 incidents, the FAA this week announced that it was proposing even more fines, this time for “unruly behavior involving alcohol.”

The FAA is proposing $161,823 in civil penalties against eight airline passengers for incidents specifically involving alcohol.

The incidents include an April Southwest flight from San Jose to San Diego when a passenger, who brought their own alcohol on their flight, sexually assaulted a flight attendant, and then smoke marijuana in the cabin’s lavatory. The FAA has proposed a $40,823 fine against that passenger.

The report also includes a March Delta Air Lines flight from Fort Myers to Detroit where a passenger who appeared intoxicated and admitted to drinking before the flight, took off his facemask, swore at passengers and accused them of stealing his property, and then threatened a crewmember, causing the flight to divert to Atlanta. The FAA proposed a $24,000 fine against him.

Another example is a March incident that occurred on an American Airlines flight from Dallas to Burbank when a passenger who refused to put on a facemask demanded a refund on the flight because he was skipped for food and drink service when he was sleeping. He then became combative with flight attendants when they asked to him again wear his facemask after he finished a drink they had delivered.

After he was served another drink, he threw it to the floor and stomped on it. The FAA has proposed a $34,250 fine against him.

According to the FAA, those three incidents are just some of the nearly 300 passenger disturbances due to alcohol and intoxication since Jan. 1, 2021. In order to combat the trend, the FAA has asked airports to prevent passengers from bringing “to-go” cups of alcohol aboard their airplane and only allow the cabin crew to serve them inflight.

The report is the continuation of a troubling trend for flight crews who have been tasked with enforcing a lot of the new COVID-19 measures, like face mask requirements, since the pandemic began. While a typical year sees unruly incidents top out somewhere around 150, COVID-19 has caused chaos in the skies and has left flight attendants to endure more than ever, with close to 4,000 reports in 2021.

Most famously this year, there was an incident of an unruly passenger on a Frontier flight from Philadelphia to Miami earlier this month when attendants had to duct-tape a passenger to a seat because of his behavior that went viral.

The FAA has taken extraordinary steps to try and get passengers to comply with the new COVID-19 rules, including a marketing campaign that asked passengers to treat airplanes like a trip to grandma’s house.
